- Ingredients for rolls:
- 1/2 packet yeast in 1/8 cup lukewarm water
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/8 cup shortening
- 1/2 egg (or 1 small egg), beaten
- 1-3/4 cups flour
- Softened butter
- Brown Sugar
- Remaining ingredients:
- 1/4 cup softened butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup chopped nuts
1. Soak yeast in lukewarm water for 5 to 10 minutes. Scald milk, add sugar, salt and shortening, then cool to lukewarm. Combine soaked yeast and cooled milk mixture. Add beaten egg and flour and beat until smooth. Place dough in a greased bowl, brush top with some melted shortening, and cover with a clean towel. Let stand in a warm spot for 10 minutes, or until double in size.
2. Roll dough into a rectangle 1/4-inch thick. Spread with softened butter and brown sugar. Roll up and seal with a pinch on the edges. Cut roll into 1-inch thick slices.
3. In a baking dish, spread butter, brown sugar and nuts. Place rolls on top, cut side down. Let rise until double in size. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
